TARIBO WEST DEBUNKS DEATH RUMOURS

Former Nigeria defender Taribo West who is now a Pastor is the latest celebrity forced to debunk rumours that he is dead.

The false rumours had said Taribo had died at 50 at a South African hospital. But speaking in a short interview about the rumour, Taribo said he is alive and fine. That the news came to him while he was mediating on a sermon. He also said he received calls from all over the world, stating that he had never received calls that much before in his life.

“I received calls telling me to check Facebook about news of my death. I saw reports of my death and people were commenting. I just laughed. I’ve never received such number of calls all my life. From US, UK, all over the world.''

The Atlanta ’96 Olympics gold medallist added that he had a premonition that something ‘evil’ was going to happen, after a spiritual attack.
Taribo said:

 “It’s the handwork of the devil; they struck but they couldn’t get me. Last week, I had a revelation, in which I was heavily attacked but they couldn’t get me. They also tried it in the physical but they didn’t succeed. So, when they couldn’t kill me, they resorted to the rumour of my death. It wasn’t an ordinary thing. But when they can’t get you, they must join you in celebrating with you. That’s what’s happening now.”

He also said he is relieved and happy after God used the news to reunite him with old friends and acquaintances.

“All the people I had lost contact with were calling, thinking I had kicked the bucket. But it helped me in reuniting with these people. That’s God’s work, when the devil means evil for you, God turns it to good for His children. I didn’t travel. I only went to the American Embassy last Tuesday; I never travelled after that,” Taribo said.

Several outlets (not Laila's Blog) had pronounced Taribo dead on the basis of an alleged report on a South African radio station.
The report had said Taribo was flown into South Africa for medical treatment but did not state what he was diagnosed of. His body was said to have since been sent for autopsy but all that have been confirmed to be false.

Coach of the Nigerian U-23 team that won Bronze in the just concluded Olympic games Samson Siasia has explained how the money given to them by Japanese Plastic surgeon and billionaire Katsuya Takasu was shared.

The doctor had given the team $390,000 to share for winning the bronze medal, Nigeria’s only medal, at the Olympics.

Siasia also criticized the Nigerian Football Federation for their objections to the money gifted to the team saying that the investigations called for by the top dogs in the federation were unnecessary.

“What actually happened is that the man was just curious how a team that was neglected and abandoned could arrive Rio under five hours and defeat the Japanese team that had all they needed and have been put together for over three years, that was his amazement.” Siasia said explaining what transpired.

He continued,

 “These guys who are saying they want to do all manner of checks, what have they done for us? Do you know that since we returned, nobody from the NFF or Ministry has called us to say that we did well. The president came and just talked and that was it, well it is not the first time he will be talking.

“When players don’t even have $100 dollars in their pocket and you want to come and preach to them.” Siasia said the entire amount of $390,000 was shared equally among all the members of the team including the supporting staff.

“The Japanese benefactor said $200,000 and $190,000 was supposed to be for bronze medal and it was split among the players and officials equally. It is not my personal money and this must be made clear.

“What I got was what every other player of official in the team got about $14,000 dollars each. The man came to Salvador where we played and gave $200,000 as draft to me and $190,000 to Mikel because he cannot write cheque to every member of the team, he made it simpler so that we all can share the money and now we are paying to the individual accounts of the boys.

“So make this issue clear to everybody that has been following it, the money was never meant for me or Mikel alone but for the entire team including the doctors and other backroom staff”.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung has dismissed reports that Dream Team Captain, Mikel Obi saved the team from embarrassment by paying a $4000-hotel bill for the additional 8 persons accompanying 29 registered contingent for the Nigerian football team. If you missed it, click here

Dalung narrated the situation that transpired on the said day when the team were checking out of the hotel enroute Salvador. According to the minister, the chief coach of the team Samson Siasia in company of another official had come knocking on his door at about 4am Sao Paolo time." Siasia was in my room early this morning and said the hotel security had refused to allow the team leave the hotel due to unpaid hotel bills. I also lodged in the same hotel with the Permanent Secretary and other members of the National Assembly who came to watch the match against Columbia.

I told him to add the bill to the permanent Secretary's bill so that he can clear it alongside other bills. The amount incurred by the excess officials and players is $4,600. When we checked out of the hotel, the money was added and the Permanent Secretary paid all outstanding bills. I am surprised to hear and read that Mikel Obi saved an embarrassing situation by paying the bills" Dalung stated.

The Minister also restated that 8 unofficially accredited persons have been following the team since they left Atlanta including 4 players and 4 officials. The organizers of the games, the International Olympic Committee are only responsible for 25 accredited players and officials including feeding, flights and accommodation. We have been carrying the rest along.

" In Manaus, we were forced to pay camp allowances to the extra 4 players making 29. As we speak now, the Nigeria Football Federation is the only federation that does not have a single board member on ground. Not even the Secretary-General is here. So, it is really unfortunate that this is happening. We have paid all players and other athletes their first 11 days in camp and the payment of the rest of the days will commence today( Friday).

We want to plead with the players to shelve all actions capable of distracting them from their upcoming game on Saturday against Denmark and channel all grievances through the appropriate route. We remain committed to the welfare of all our athletes in camp as we look forward to giving them our unhindered support" Dalung reassured.

This is what champions are made of! Portugal, from being best losers have fought to achieve European glory after an Eder goal ensured Portugal beat host Nation, France to win Euro 2016.

Portugal started the match with same 4-4-2 formation, with C. Ronaldo and Nani upfront but it wasn't long until Ronaldo was stretched off after sustaining a serious knee injury.

 

France in the first half were the better team and played more expansive football with Sissokho the main star in the first half but to Portugal's credit and Rui Patricio's heroics, ended the first half 0-0.

Portugal started the second half with Nani as captain and Quaresma replacing the already injured Ronaldo and grew in confidence but efforts from both sets of teams was not enough as both teams ended the second half still level 0-0.

 

Pulsating moments as Extra time started.

 

Ronaldo, showed so much exemplary leadership qualities and came to the touch line to spur and inspire his teammates to apply more pressure on the French defence.

 

By this time Portugal was beginning to feel that they had the game for the taking and scored through substitute Eder in the second half of extra time.

IT'S OVER! Portugal beat France 1-0 and are the champions of Europe! Such contrasting emotions from the two sides. Tears from both, but for many different reasons. Cristiano Ronaldo's sadness has turned to joy, while many of the France players look inconsolable as they sit dejected on the turf.

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi and his father have been sentenced to 21 months in jail on tax charges.
A Spanish court has said the sentences for the 29-year-old Argentina striker can be appealed through the country's Supreme Court. Messi has been fined two million euros. His father was given the same jail sentence and a fine of 1.5 million euros.In Spain, sentences of less than two years for first offences are suspended, meaning neither man will go to jail.

Portugal started with their preferred 4-4-2 formation starting Ronaldo and Nani as strikers, while Wales, who have enjoyed a fairy-tale journey in the tournament so far, started with  Gareth Bale and Robson-Kanu in attack with Aaron Ramsey missing through suspension.

The game started with dour flashes of possession between both teams as both teams tried to approach the match tactically.

Portugal probably should have had a penalty when Collins had Ronaldo in a headlock early in the half but the referee said no.

Down the other end Wales threatened a few times. Bale had a pop on goal, the only shot on target in the first half, and Andy King flashed a header over.

Wales were probably the happiest in the first half and looked a threat, but on the break it was 0-0.

The second half started with no changes.

Then the moment came, Joe Allen fouled Adrian Silva 45 yards out and Ronaldo decided against shooting shot at goal. But from the resulting corner, a goal ensued. GOOOOAAAAALLLL!!! 1-0 in Portugal's favour. Ronaldo leaped highest and scored from the corner.

Minutes later, a miscued shot from Ronaldo from 20 yards that seemed to be going off until NANI stuck out a leg and diverted it past Wayne Hennessey. 

2-0.

 

Portugal rallied for the win and with substitutions that included  Moutinho and Quaresma played out a 2-0 win over Wales.

This is Ronaldo's 61st international goal for his country and Portugal will play either France or Germany in the final.

Argentina's greatest footballer of all time Diego Maradona has pleaded with country man and current Argentina captain Lionel Messi not to retire from International football following Argentina's Copa America Centenario final loss to Chile.

After losing his fourth final for his country - after the World Cup two years ago and the Copa America in 2007 and 2015 - an emotional Messi said: 'That's it. It's over for me with the national team. But Maradona has urged the Barcelona man to think carefully about his future.

'Messi has to stay in the national team. He will go to Russia in form to be world champion,' Maradona told Argentine daily La Nacion. He has to rely more on boys who can help take the team forward and less on those who say they have to go. Those who are saying he should quit are doing it so that we won't see what a disaster Argentine football has become.'

Messi's plan to retire comes as the Argentine Football Association (AFA) implodes after the AFA's presidential election was recently marred by controversy and uncertainty.

 Maradona added:

'I am very sorry and very angry with what is happening to Argentine football. We hit bottom, we reached the bottom.'
