Dismissed Soldier Who's Terrorizing People In Lagos Nabbed

A former official of the Nigerian Army who was reportedly dismissed for terrorizing the Ebute Meta area of Lagos, has finally met his Waterloo, after months of harassing unsuspecting Lagosians, with the help of his former colleague who is still in service.

It was gathered that the suspect notoriously known by his nickname “One bullet”, was arrested after he went to raid the homes of some suspected yahoo boys with the help of some SARS operatives.

After the raid, they extorted their victims of N220,000 and an iPhone X.

However, Huskey, a friend of the victims, reported the matter at the Bonny Camp soldier barracks and some officers where deployed to take up the issue. 

One bullet was subsequently arrested and is now cooling his feet in detention.

A Nigerian man and barber identified as Daniel Essien, has been reportedly arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl at Alagbole area of Akute. in the state.


According to report, Daniel was arrested after the mother of the underage girl, Mrs Ayoola Tolulope who lodged a formal complaint to the police reported that she was called by her child’s school teacher to be watchful of her daughter because the girl confided in her that a man has been sexually abusing her sexually. An information that made her interrogate the her daughter on her arrival from school, and she confirmed to her that it was Daniel, a barber in their neighborhood that has abused her three times.

It was gathered that the barber was promptly arrested and he reportedly confessed to the evil act.

Buhari Should Just Go, He Has Failed Nigerians - Cardinal Okogie

A former Archbishop of the Catholic Church in Lagos, Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to renounce the presidential seat following what he described as the President’s failure to secure the lives and property of Nigerians.

Specifically, he accused the President of failing to stop killings perpetrated by Fulani militant herdsmen.

In an open letter to Buhari, entitled, “Dear Mr. President, Call a Spade a Spade,” Okogie said;

“Dear Mr. President, we must call a spade a spade. You were elected to protect the land and its people but neither is being protected under your watch.

“You therefore have the most important decision of your career to make. And that decision is this: Are you for Nigerians or not?”

The cleric pointed out that the number of killings so far recorded under the Buhari-led administration showed that the government had failed on security.

He said, “The number (of Nigerians) killed under your watch, Mr. President, provides more than convincing evidence that the government you lead has failed to secure our lives. You are the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

“If more than three years into your administration, you have been unable to stop these killings, why don’t you seriously consider the option of an honourable renunciation of the presidential seat?

“One of the major factors behind the patent failure of your government is the fact that you are surrounded by men and women who fail to tell you the truth about Nigeria and who shield you from seeing what is happening to the ordinary Nigerians.

“Instead of assisting you in the governance of this country, they insult those whose dissenting opinions you need if you are to succeed.

"How does one explain the fact that under your watch as the Commander-in-Chief, agencies established to maintain law and order, instead of protecting innocent citizens of this country, dissipate their energy running after members of opposing parties? Do you call that democracy?

“No right-thinking person would advocate letting anyone off who has committed a crime. No one is above the law, not even you, Mr. President. That is why the Constitution provides for a process of removing the President.

“That is why the point must also be made that those who contravene the laws of Nigeria be brought to book, irrespective of their political, regional, ethnic or religious affiliation. But the sad reality is: under your watch, that is not what is happening.”

The former President of the CAN faulted the Federal Government for failing to arrest and prosecute leaders of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, who had on several occasions allegedly claimed responsibility for the various attacks on communities.

He said, “A member of the Miyetti Allah appeared on television, justifying as retaliatory the killings in Plateau State. He was not the first member of the Miyetti Allah to make the statement.

“Nigerians are baffled that he has yet to be arrested. Where were those responsible for our security at a time they were needed most?

“Dear President Buhari, I am compelled to write to you again because, since the bloodshed of the first day of this year, there has been more bloodshed in Zamfara State and in the Middle Belt.

“The latest killings in Plateau State make us wonder: where were you, Mr. President, while innocent lives were being wasted in Plateau State? Where were your service chiefs when babies were being ripped out of their mothers’ wombs by men who claim to do so because of their cows?

“While all this happened during the national convention of your party, it would be unfair to insinuate that the latest round of killings had anything to do with your party.

“However, it was scandalous that at about the time innocent Nigerians were being slaughtered like cows in Plateau State last weekend, some members of your party were dancing and feasting at your party’s convention in Abuja, while some were throwing chairs at each other, and some others were exchanging blows.

“That, in itself, points to the absence of democracy in your party, as is the case in virtually all the political parties in Nigeria.”

Okogie also blamed the President for treating the herdsmen with kid gloves, saying, “You described what is going on as a clash between herdsmen and farmers. If the identities of these criminals are not hidden, why has the Nigerian intelligence community, under your watch, failed to prevent them from shedding blood?”

Okorocha's N50m Inducement Was Rejected By Me, That's Why I Was Suspended – Lawmaker

One of the four lawmakers suspended by the Imo state House of Assembly on Wednesday for alleged "unparliamentary conducts", Hon. Nkenna Nzeruo, representing Oru East, has accused the speaker and the 21 other lawmakers of witch hunting him.

He claimed that he was suspended because he rejected N50m oath taking inducement to support the governorship aspiration of Governor Rochas Okorocha's son-in-law and chief of staff, Uche Nwosu.

The lawmaker in a release he personally issued in Owerri, said that part of his ordeal was because he rejected the N50m oath taking inducement and refused to go to the media to attack Senator Hope Uzodimma who is having political issues to settle with the governor.

He said apart from his suspension from the legislature, he has been marked for physical assault.

The statement read in part, “First, I was duly elected as member representing the good people of Oru-East state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly and till date, I have not been found wanting in the discharge of my legislative functions; neither have I faced a disciplinary committee for whatever reason.

“I have stated this for the records, because no credible reason was given for my suspension from the house, rather, the speaker said it was for unparliamentary conduct.

“The crimes I committed are that I gave heed to my people, whose mandate I represent, not to participate in any oath taking for the sum of N50m to protect my integrity before God and my people.

“That I refused to go to the press to attack, abuse and assassinate the character of Senator Hope Uzodimma as instructed even when he is my brother, constituent and also a BoT member of same party (APC).

“My alleged refusal to join the bandwagon of the Ugwumba Movement (Agburu) supporting a particular governorship aspirant in Imo State.

“That I wore the uniform provided by and for the South East members of the party (APC) for the just concluded National Convention of the party at Abuja.

“How these become an unparliamentary conduct is yet to be proved. You will recall that a few weeks ago, news filtered in about oath taking scare in the House of Assembly, which I was also not included, because it is not a part of my legislative functions.

“This is simply the outcome of the APC national convention of 23rd June, 2018, at Eagle Square, Abuja, that has resulted to this witch-hunting.

“I have also been reliably informed that other forms of attack are being programmed against me.

“Remember my people, that the mandate you gave me is so precious, that we endured two painful primary elections and three grueling general elections, including supplementary elections, all of which we were victorious because of your support.

“I assure you that God is involved and that with your continued support, which is sure for me, we shall weather any storm and come out with resounding victory.

“Thus, I urge you all to remain calm, while we go through this, because it will surely end in praise.”

Lagos Tanker Fire: "It Was Like War, We Thought The End Had Come – Lucky Survivors

If Mr. Wasiu Olaitan had kept his tradition of not going out to work on Thursdays, perhaps he would have been in the comfort of his home today – hale and hearty. The 41-year-old commercial bus driver, who augments his daily income by operating as a vulcaniser by the side, a father of three, invests much of his energy and time into productive activities that would help put food on the table for his family. 

A native of Osun State, a arrived Lagos several years ago where his search for a better life has continued, but Alawasi, as he is fondly called by those close to him, has not really had it easy over time...

Though managing to build a small house in the Ibafo area of Ogun State to shelter his family, the middle-aged man has continued to contend with all manner of struggles in his quest for a major breakthrough in life.

On Thursday afternoon, while ferrying passengers in his 18-seater bus from Lagos to the Mowe/Ibafo area of neighbouring Ogun, a bigger worry was added to Olaitan’s growing list. A speeding tanker laden with around 33, 000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit – one of the deadliest and easily combustible liquids in the world – that had lost control suddenly fell a few metres away from Otedola Bridge, a popular axis along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, spilling its content all over the place and bursting into flames shortly afterwards. His commercial bus was directly behind the ill-fated tanker, and the moment brought a glimpse of perhaps what the end of the world would look like.

“I saw darkness everywhere immediately the tanker exploded,” he said while speaking with The Punch on his hospital bed where yards of bandages now strapped him like an armour. “I thought I was going to die. It was as if the end had come. There was commotion everywhere, just like in a war. Nothing else came to my mind. We all believed it was the end,” he added soberly as he narrated his ordeal to his teary-eyed wife – Faidat – and other family members, who had come to check on him on Friday morning. One of the correspondents, who was at the Trauma and Burns wing of the Gbagada General Hospital where he and a handful other victims of the tragedy are being treated, went in with the party after posing to security men as his relative.

While attributing his narrow escape to divine grace, the Ile-Ife indigene said that for a few minutes after the tanker fell, he and others in the vehicle were confused as to what to do. He revealed that it was while it was being argued that the content of the truck was diesel or petrol that the entire place erupted in flames. According to him, after being briefly knocked out by the sound of the explosion, he managed to regain consciousness and enough strength to force his way out of the bus through the front passenger seat. But even after exiting the vehicle, his fears were far from over.

“I jumped into a gutter full of dirty water immediately I forced my way out of the bus,” he said, slowly adjusting his sitting position on the bed. “I had hoped to use the water to quench the fire on my body but unknown to me the water had already mixed with the petrol that had spilled from the tanker. That compounded my problem. While I was struggling to quench the fire on my body, I did not know that my head was burning. I managed to run across the road and into an uncompleted building where people around helped me put out the fire. That was my saving grace, otherwise only God knows what would have happened to me,” he stated.

Revealing how the tragedy and her husband’s present condition had affected their life as a family, Faidat told Punch that things had not remained the same since Thursday. According to her, they had expended almost all the money on them in trying to save his life.

“This tragedy has completely changed our life as a family,” she began. “The thought of him lying in the hospital and battling for survival has left us restless.

“My husband usually does not go out on Thursdays. No matter how much you offer him, he would not go to work on that day. But he went out to work that day because he was arrested by LASTMA operatives on Monday and he used all the money he realised to settle them. He had no money on him and that was why he decided to go out on Thursday to work.

“I heard of the incident from one of our neighbours whose shop I had gone to buy something. Immediately I got into the house, I called my husband’s number but it was switched off. I called one of our children to warn him not to come home yet because of the incident but his number didn’t go through. Later, my husband used one of the nurses’ numbers to call and inform me that he was involved in the incident.

“I was really scared when I heard the news. In fact, all sorts of thoughts came to my mind but I thank God that he didn’t die. We are praying for his recovery now,” she said.

Like the rest of the victims affected by Thursday’s deadly inferno, Mr. Wasiu Amoo had no inkling of what laid in wait for him when he left his home at Ibafo for work at nearby Kara that fateful morning. A dealer in granite and other building materials in the area, the 68-year-old, who lost his wife and best friend of several decades about three years ago, after completing another productive day at work, was heading home that evening when the commercial bus he boarded was caught up in the tragedy. While other younger passengers managed to escape with minor burns and injuries, Amoo, perhaps due to age, couldn’t summon a similar swiftness. By the time he managed to drag himself to safety, there had been significant damage done to his aging body. He hangs precariously unto life at the Lagos hospital.

“Large parts of his body were severely burnt,” the 68-year-old’s daughter and fifth child, Aminat told Punch during an encounter on Friday. “He has not been able to open his eyes since that incident. Initially, he was not able to talk but after oxygen was administered on him on Friday morning, he had been talking gradually.

“Also, since that incident, he had not been able to urinate on his own; the nurses have been using a device to assist him to do that. He has been complaining of pains.

“We are praying to God to preserve his life. He is a good father; we cannot afford to lose him now. Since we lost our mother three years ago, he has been playing both roles for us. We beg God to spare his life,” she said.

Asked if there was any sort of premonition of something terrible happening before the incident, Aminat, who lives with her husband in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, said that though she wouldn’t say that there was a warning, she had felt uneasy for about three days prior to the tragedy without knowing what the problem actually was.

“For about three days before the incident, I was always having bad feelings,” she disclosed. “I couldn’t explain what the problem was. I had to embark on a seven-day fast to ward off any evil from my family. But on Thursday evening, I got the news through an uncle. We have not been at peace ever since,” she added.

Also lucky to be alive is Mr. Seun Solarin, an official of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, who escaped death by mere inches. The young man returning home from work with three colleagues and a few others in a Mitsubishi space wagon that fateful evening was rushing to go and watch the ongoing FIFA World Cup taking place in Russia before things took a different turn. In a few deadly seconds, daylight turned to raging storm of fire that threatened to consume him and others inside the vehicle. Despite sustaining slight injury, Solarin is grateful to have lived to tell his story.

“If anybody told me I’d still be alive by now, I would doubt it,” he said, still looking frightened. “I saw it; I was there, in front of a huge fire, in front of death. I was sitting beside the driver, Williams, my colleague when everything happened. I thought war had broken out. I was afraid that life had come to an end.

“Before the incident, I and Williams noticed how the tanker was manoeuvring anyhow. The tanker driver was waving at other vehicles behind not to come close. As it approached Oando Filling Station, there was traffic and the driver decided not to move forward again. As he tilted the tanker towards the culvert in the middle of the road so that it would stop, the tanker started descending. One of the motor boys quickly disembarked and started throwing a big wood in front of the tyre to stop it. But the tanker climbed a stone and fell. Fuel started gushing out but the others said it was diesel and that it wouldn’t explode.

“But something told me that even if it was diesel, we were supposed to run for safety. So, I asked everyone in the car to run. I had not run up to 100 metres before the tanker exploded. It was like a bomb exploding in a war. I didn’t look back again until I reached Isheri.

“Williams and another colleague, called Aunty Maria are still missing. Another colleague inside the car who managed to escape had his scalp seriously burnt. I pray not to witness anything like this in my life again,” he said as he battled tears.

Governors To Buhari: Sack Head of Police, Military, Others If They Can’t Stop Killings

The 36 state governors say they will ask President Muhammadu Buhari to sack security chiefs if they cannot stop the current wave of killings in the country.

But the governors first want to interface with the security chiefs to let them “understand where we are and how this thing (killings) is depleting the relationship among the citizens”.

Their chairman, Abdulaziz Yari, said yesterday in Jos, the Plateau State capital that the security chiefs must keep going or “else, we have no option than to ask the President to relieve them” of their responsibility.

Yari, governor of Zamfara State spoke when he led a delegation of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) to Jos to commiserate with Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau on the recent murder of over 100 people in parts of the state by suspected herdsmen.

The governors stressed the need for an immediate end to the killings lest the killers turn on the rulers in the course of time.

Yari said: "We want to come together as a family to fight this menace because the killers are everywhere. How can we watch these evil people killing our people?

“We encourage Mr. President that whoever is found wanton in these killings should be brought to book.

“In my state, I said I will step down as chief security officer because the situation was so tight for me over the killings and incessant attacks on my people.

“We must do something as leaders now; if not, the killers will soon come after us the leaders of the people.

“We encourage you as governor not to lose focus. Plateau state has been enjoying relative peace over the years under your administration, but all of a sudden these killings took place."

The Zamfara governor said the NGF would not relent in ensuring that the security agencies are up and doing.

“We are going to, very soon as we have agreed collectively, have a one-day interface with the security chiefs, to ensure that they understand where we are and how this thing is depleting the relationship between the citizens and as a nation the threat that we are under, as we are under a time bomb...”

The governor said Zamfara alone experienced 115 attacks between March 1st and June 1st, 2018, which he said claimed the lives of 435 persons.

Governor Lalong thanked his colleagues for their visit and declared that “no one has any reason to take somebody else’s life.”

Meet Brilliant Student Who Scored 354 To Emerge Best In JAMB

A student of New Covenant Christian College International, Makurdi, Benue State, Moses Ape, has emerged with the best result in the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Moses scored 354 in the examination to beat Ibukun Oduntan of Corona Secondary School, Agbara Ogun State who was initially celebrated on social media as the best student with a total score of 344.

Principal of New Covenant Christian College International, Mrs. Joyce Ufere, who disclosed this at a press conference in Makurdi, explained that the school, which was established in 2009, presented 23 students for the examination.

Of the 23 candidates presented, Ufere said six of them scored above 300 with Moses scoring the highest with 354 while the least student from the school scored 249 in the examination.

Asked how he attained the feat, the 17-year-old Moses gave the credit to God, his teachers, his seniors and his parents for encouraging him to invest his time in intensive study.

Businessman Trying To Defend Okada Man From Touts Stabbed To Death (Photos)

There was chaos in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra state yesterday after a businessman was killed earlier around Main Market axis.

The deceased was allegedly stabbed to death by a group of thugs and cultists after he prevented them from extorting money from an Okada rider.

The man was reported to have defended the Okada rider as the touts along with their chairman were trying to extort money from him.

He reportedly threatened to lock the touts up in prison as he came to the rescue of the Okada man.

The hoodlums got angry and pounced on him, beating him mercilessly. They stabbed him with bottles, knives and the weapons they could lay their hands on and left him to die in the pool of his blood.

This sparked outrage among the business community as traders shut all shops to protest the incident.

Three UBA Staff Die After Being Swept Away By Flood

Three United Bank for Africa staff have reportedly lost their lives after being swept away by flood in Onitsha, Anambra state.

The staff of Ogboefere branch in Enugu/Onitsha expressway, died after their car was swept away by the flood resulting from a heavy downpour.

The deceased are identified as Eby, Uju and Ezenwa. The flood was as a result of blocked drainage channels.

Friends have been left in shock since the tragic news went public on Thursday.
