The police in the Federal Capital Territory have arrested a gang of car snatchers at their hide-out in Jos, Plateau State, after stealing an Opel car in Lugbe area of Abuja.
Parading the suspects in Abuja on Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, explained that the suspects included, Sadisu Mohammed, 32, Lawal Adamu, 31 and Yusuf Saleh, 31 years.
He said, “Following a reported case of a car snatched at gunpoint on February 12, 2018 at Lugbe, police operatives from Lugbe Division have arrested members of the notorious car snatching syndicate and recovered the snatched Opel car with registration number BLD 176 XA.
“Upon discreet investigation, the suspects were tracked down to their hideout at Angulu, Jos in Plateau State where they were arrested on September 17.”
Ladodo noted that efforts were being intensified to recover the firearm used by the gang for their robbery operations, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
Mohammed in an interview said they have snatched about four different car models, including a 2000 Toyota Camry car which they sold for N300,000.
“We have stolen about four cars which we sold for N300,000, another one was sold for N150,000 which we shared among ourselves,” he added.
The police also paraded one Kelvin Nnamdi, 27, and Reuben Adaan, 23 years, for allegedly robbing a tricycle passenger of her phone at Apo.
