DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA VS REAL MADRID PREVIEW:- JESSE INSISTS FAILURE NOT AN OPTION

DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA VS REAL MADRID PREVIEW:- JESSE INSISTS FAILURE NOT AN OPTION

Deportivo La Coruna v Real Madrid Preview: Jese insists failure not an option
Zinedine Zidane's side can still claim the title should they win and Luis Enrique's side slip up at Granada and the striker says they cannot afford to make any mistakes
Real Madrid attacker Jese Rodriguez has stressed failure is not an option when they visit Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday as Zinedine Zidane's men aim to pip Barcelona to La Liga glory.
Madrid are trailing leaders Barca by one point heading into the final matchday, with the Catalans travelling to Granada.

The capital club could still win their first title since 2011-12 if Barcelona slip up, but Jese has warned beating Deportivo should be their main priority before they can think about the result of their rivals' game.
A draw will not be enough for Zidane's men, with Barca holding a superior head-to-head record after the two league matches between the sides.
"We're preparing for the game against Deportivo just as if it was any other game. We have to look each other in the eye and go out and give our all because we can't slip up," Jese told the official Madrid website.
"The worst thing would be for us to slip up and then for there to be a surprise result in Granada. We'll go there to win, just as we always do. We've already started preparing for the game. I see the whole team as being in very good shape.
"We're very keen to win the final game of the La Liga season. Winning the title is out of our hands, but we can't slip up. We're Real Madrid and we have to win the last game, pick up another three points and then wait and see what happens in Granada."

Following La Liga's conclusion, Madrid have a Champions League final date with city rivals Atletico at the end of the month as the club go in search of an 11th European triumph.
Deportivo, by contrast, have little left to play for after they ensured another year of La Liga football last week with their win over Villarreal.
Pedro Mosquera is adamant they have no intention of rolling over, though, even if he would personally prefer Madrid to win the title.
"It's a really special game that everyone wants to play in. It's the last match of the season at our stadium, in front of our home fans, and we're out to get a victory that we haven't managed for a long time," Mosquera told reporters.
"I'd rather Real Madrid won the title than Barcelona, but we'll be going after those three points. We'll be going all out to win the match."
Deportivo were hammered 5-0 by Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu back in January, while they were thrashed 8-2 the last time they hosted Madrid in 2014-15.

LEAKED:- MANCHESTER UNITED NEW HOME KIT

LEAKED:- MANCHESTER UNITED NEW HOME KIT

LEAKED: Is this Man Utd's new home kit?

The Red Devils released their 2016-17 away strip this week despite images being leaked as early as March and now fans have been given a glimpse of a possible new home shirt
Images of Manchester United’s possible home strip for next season have been leaked online, a day after the club officially revealed the club’s new away kit.
Similar to the blue Adidas away strip that the Red Devils marketed on Wednesday, despite unofficial pictures being revealed as early as March, details of the supposed home kit have been shared early.
The shirt features a ‘Newton Heath’ label on the inside of the neck, in the same position to the ‘Red Devils’ line on the away top, with the manufacturer's ‘ClimaCool’ logo on the base.

Adidas, who have a deal with the Old Trafford outfit to manufacture their kits over the next decade, have also included their trademark tri-stripe on the ribcage of the home shirt, rather than on the sleeves.
The club announced that the new away jersey will cost £60, with the long-sleeve option an additional £5, and women and children tops starting at £55.

NANS VOWS TO SHUT DOWN ALL CAMPUSES, OCCUPY NIGERIA OVER N145 PETROL PRICE

The Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Thursday said the over 40 million Nigerian students would re-enact the Occupy Nigeria protest against the removal of subsidy from petroleum product next week.

He said NANS is already mobilizing Nigerias students to resist the new N145 per litre pump price of the Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, otherwise called petrol. According to him,
“A directive has been issued to all tertiary institutions to shut down all campuses on Tuesday and Wednesday, next week. COUPLE IN THEIR SEVENTIES WELCOME FIRST CHILD AFTER 47YEARS OF MARRIAGE(PHOTO)

COUPLE IN THEIR SEVENTIES WELCOME FIRST CHILD AFTER 47YEARS OF MARRIAGE(PHOTO)

A couple are celebrating the arrival of their first child - despite both being in their SEVENTIES.
Pensioners Daljinder Kaur, 72, from Amritsar, and her 79-year-old husband Mohinder Singh Gill, gave birth to a healthy baby boy on April 19.

The couple, from India, have been married for 47 years - but only decided to seek fertility treatment following the end of a family feud.

Gill, a farmer, said:
"I felt upset as I was unable to produce a child.
"After sometime we thought of having a baby, once again."
The couple have been travelling from their home in Amritsar, Punjab, to the National Fertility and Test Tube Baby Centre in Hisar, Haryana, to receive IVF treatment since 2013.
Daljinder Kaur is happy to have a baby boy, who they've named Arman Singh.
The mother said:
"It was very important for us. I can live happily now. My life is complete."
Workers at the fertility clinic said they were initially sceptical about offering her treatment until medical reports proved she was a suitable candidate.
Anurag Bishnoi, who runs the fertility clinic, said:
"I first tried to avoid the case because she was very weak, but then her medical reports were normal and she was fit to conceive."
This is the second case at the centre where a woman in her seventies has delivered successfully following IVF.
In 2006, 70-year-old Rajo Devi gave birth to a baby girl from the same centre, making her the world's oldest mother at the time.

MARTIAL LAW NOT ENOUGH AS MANCHESTER UNITED BUCKLE UNDER BOLEYN BOMBARDMENT

MARTIAL LAW NOT ENOUGH AS MANCHESTER UNITED BUCKLE UNDER BOLEYN BOMBARDMENT

Martial law not enough as Man Utd buckle under Boleyn bombardment
The Red Devils found themselves in a great position to see off West Ham but blew it, along with their best chance of playing Champions League football next term.
The evening ended in as much chaos as it had started for Manchester United. The behavior of a group of West Ham fans might have cast a shadow on their arrival for Upton Park’s last ever fixture, but they had nobody but themselves to blame for the 3-2 defeat that leaves them relying on favors if they are to be a Champions League team next season.
Anthony Martial aside, there was far too little on show from United to suggest that this is a side worthy of finishing in the top four. The Frenchman side-footed into an empty net after great play by Juan Mata to grab a second-half equaliser before putting United ahead with 18 minutes to go when duping first Winston Reid and then Darren Randolph to slam home.

But Louis van Gaal will be asked pertinent questions about his squad’s qualities after a game in which their soft underbelly was uncovered for the umpteenth time this season. Beyond star-buy Martial and a decent midfield performance from Wayne Rooney, United had nothing to offer. The lack of quality says much about the Dutchman’s transfer decisions but also about his reign as a whole.
They were deservedly behind at half-time having taken around 35 minutes to get anywhere close to the pace of the game. By then Diafra Sakho had slid West Ham ahead and Michail Antonio had had a header ruled out after the ball had momentarily gone out of play in the build-up. In total in the first half the Hammers had 10 efforts at goal to United’s one, and that was a wild strike by Rooney which was as high as it was wide.
After Michael Carrick entered for the hugely disappointing Morgan Schneiderlin at the break, United gained a foothold. Martial’s double was a masterclass in counter-attacking football and appeared to have given the visitors a lead in the Champions League race. But every time they were attacked in the air at the back they looked in danger, and it came as little surprise that they were punished first by Antonio and then by Reid.
Van Gaal admitted in his pre-match press conference that the lack of height in his side was a concern and West Ham sure made them pay when they needed to. Quite how Antonio Valencia ended up being yards behind Antonio as the big full-back equalised is anyone’s guess, while Daley Blind’s timidity in challenging Reid was a glaring shortfall.
They didn’t have the stomach for the fight in the early exchanges, and in the last 20 minutes they were lacking the simple ability to defend high balls, to stick their bodies on the line for the colleagues and for the badge. Every time West Ham attacked, United looked frail.
United are not entirely out of the picture. They still have Bournemouth to play at Old Trafford on Sunday, but they now have to hope that Swansea City see off Manchester City in their simultaneous kick-off at the Liberty Stadium.
In reality, though, their best hope has gone. After a season in which they have been given a host of second chances, they have been left begging for another one on the final day of the campaign. On this showing, they don’t deserve one.

MIKEL OBI BLAMES POOR FINISHING FOR SHOCKING CHELSEA DEFEAT

MIKEL OBI BLAMES POOR FINISHING FOR SHOCKING CHELSEA DEFEAT

The Blues’ midfielder admitted that his team was wasteful in front of goal as they were toppled by the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light
John Obi Mikel felt Chelsea paid the price for not converting their chances in their 3-2 defeat to Sunderland on Saturday.
Guus Hiddink’s men were 2-1 at the break but Sam Allardyce’s men scored twice in a three-minute second-half spell to silence the Blues at the Stadium of Light.
And the Nigerian blamed his side's inability to convert their chances for their defeat despite a bright start.

“We started the game well and for the first 30 to 35 minutes we had control and we were playing well,” Mikel told club website.
“We were creating chances, moving the ball quickly and players wanted to get involved.
“In the second half, we came out and we wanted to carry on where left off but we didn’t kill the game when we had the chances to do it.
“Then Ivanovic went down, the referee didn’t blow the whistle, we stopped a little and they scored the second goal. From then, they had some momentum, they built on that and got the third goal.”
The Super Eagles skipper believes the Black Cats were helped by a sell-out crowd at the Stadium but remained swayed they should have won the game.
“Their fans were on top of them and supporting them, and rightly so because they have to save their Premier League status,” he continued.
“They came out to fight and play. But if we killed the game when we had the chances and opportunities I don’t think they would have come back into the game.”

TOTTENHAM 1-2 SOUTHAMPTON: DAVIS SCORES TWICE AS SAINTS STAGE COMEBACK

TOTTENHAM 1-2 SOUTHAMPTON: DAVIS SCORES TWICE AS SAINTS STAGE COMEBACK

Tottenham 1-2 Southampton: Davis scores twice as Saints stage comeback
Mauricio Pochettino's men took the lead through Heung Min-Son but were pegged back by the midfielder, who struck a double to give his side a surprise three points
Southampton came from behind to beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday, thanks to two goals from Steven Davis.
The Northern Ireland international produced a fine winning goal in the closing 20 minutes to seal all three points and move Ronald Koeman's side above West Ham and into the final Europa League place.

Spurs – who are in danger of losing their grip on second spot – went into the game having seen their title aspirations ended by Chelsea last time out, but they started well and were ahead early on through Son Heung-min.
Davis pegged them back with a simple finish that Hugo Lloris should have done better with, while Shane Long missed an early second-half chance to put the visitors ahead.
It mattered little, though, as Davis placed a low effort beyond Lloris to complete their comeback and deliver another blow to Spurs' chances of surpassing their best Premier League points total of 72.
Defeat means Mauricio Pochettino's side need to beat Newcastle United on the final day to move on to 73 points and guarantee their place in the top three, without having to rely on other results.
With plenty on the line for both sides the game began at a frantic pace and the impressive Christian Eriksen was immediately to the fore, the Denmark international testing Fraser Forster in the fifth minute.
Having soaked up the early Spurs pressure, Southampton – unchanged from their win over Manchester City – enjoyed success on the counter-attack, with Dusan Tadic and Ryan Bertrand flashing low crosses across Lloris' goal.
It was the hosts who broke the deadlock, though, as Son collected Eriksen's pass before dancing around Forster and two defenders to tap into an unguarded goal in the 16th minute for Spurs' 68th of the season – their most in a single Premier League season.
Harry Kane and Eriksen both wasted chances to double Spurs' advantage and they were made to pay as Davis levelled just after the half hour, the midfielder converting Tadic's pass from close range.
The home side – who recalled Ryan Mason for the suspended Mousa Dembele – should have been back in front by the break, but Forster was on hand to deny Kane in stoppage time.
Long was presented with a glorious chance from Tadic's pinpoint cross nine minutes after the restart as the Republic of Ireland international rose above Danny Rose, but failed to get enough on his header.
After a water break in the 69th minute due to the soaring temperatures, Southampton caught their hosts napping with the winning goal.
Davis exchanged passes with Tadic on the edge of the Tottenham penalty area, jinked away from one defender and found the bottom corner with a precise finish.
Pochettino's men pushed for an equaliser in the closing minutes, but Kane and Erik Lamela were wasteful and Nacer Chadli was brilliantly denied by Forster as Southampton clung on for the win, moving them onto 60 points – equalling their club record set last season.

LAGOS POLICE HUNT FOR MAN OVER BANKER-WIFE'S DEATH

LAGOS POLICE HUNT FOR MAN OVER BANKER-WIFE'S DEATH

The Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for Mr. Lekan Shonde, who allegedly killed his banker-wife, Ronke, in Lagos on Thursday night.

Ronke Shonde, a mother of two, was found dead in their apartment located on Tiemo Close, Off Awori Street, in the Egbeda-Idimu area of Lagos State on Friday morning. The husband was said to have fled with his wife’s mobile phones after the incident occurred.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos Command, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident on Saturday, adding that the matter had been transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.

She said
“marks of violence” were found on Ronke, suggesting that she was murdered in cold blood.
The police spokesperson further said the command had launched a manhunt for the husband of the deceased.

Badmos said, “
Yes, I confirm the incident. It was reported on Friday at about 8am by the landlady. She said at about 7am, she heard the screaming of Mrs. Ronke Shonde’s children, who is one of her tenants, as they couldn’t find the key to open their door from inside.
“When the door was forced open from outside, the lifeless body of the victim was found on the floor.
“Police operatives visited the scene and the corpse was removed and deposited at the Isolo General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.”

The police spokesperson explained that the deceased’s husband was at large and could not be reached on his telephone lines, which had been switched off.

“Effort is on to get him. The command will certainly get to the root of the case. The case has been transferred to the homicide section of the SDCI for discreet investigation,” she added.

Some residents of the street on which the couple lived, who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH when one of our correspondents visited the area on Saturday, lamented that the deceased had been enduring an abusive marriage.

It was gathered that Ronke was the second of three siblings to die within two years.

A neighbour, who has a shop on the street, said Ronke died on Thursday night but the neighbours did not know until Friday morning.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the neighbour said, “
It is a very unfortunate incident. The man had serially abused and assaulted his wife until the Thursday attack led to her death.“He would tie her, beat her and take her mobile phones away. She should have left him long ago.”

The neighbour said the couple  lived comfortably, as the wife worked with Guaranty Trust Bank while her husband works at the Apapa depot of Mobil.

The neighbour also said,
“The husband is much older than the wife; the woman was in her 30s while man should be in his 50s.”
Some people heard when she screamed on Thursday night but nobody knew what happened to her until her nanny raised the alarm on Friday morning.
“I was one of those who packed her remains. She had injuries on her head, neck and around her private parts. There were blood stains on the walls, which indicated that she must have struggled with him until he overpowered her.“She was a light-skinned person but by the time we broke into their apartment, her body was already becoming dark and swollen. A doctor who conducted some tests on her said she must have been killed around 11pm on Thursday.”

According to the neighbour, Ronke’s mother had three children, while her younger brother died about a year ago. He lamented that her death might have been prevented if her brother’s wife, who had been living with them, was home on Thursday night.

When one of our correspondents sought to speak with the couple’s immediate neighbours on Saturday, their residence, which had two buildings one of which was said to be occupied by the landlady, was shut.

Another resident in the area, who also declined to be named in print, said the police had sealed up the couple’s flat, while other occupants of the building had shut the gate to visitors ever since.

“The flat was not just sealed. The police called a welder to weld the doors, which are made of iron to protect the crime scene,” the souce said.

The neighbour added that Ronke’s uncle came to take the children to their grandmother who is based in Kwara State.
