Moses, Leon Balogun aim for starting shirts for Chelsea, Brighton

Former Super Eagles winger, Victor Moses will be hoping to get the nod of Chelsea coach, Maurizio Sarri as the team face Bournemouth on Saturday at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner has been kept on the bench after featuring in Chelsea's opening Premier League 3-0 win over Huddersfield on August 11.

Moses was an unused substitute in the Blues 3-2 win over London rivals, Arsenal and hard-fought 2-1 win over 'stubborn' Newcastle last weekend.

The Nigeria international will be hoping Sarri consider him for Saturday's Clash against Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Leon Balogun will be aiming for another time on the starting line up of Brighton as they host Fulham on Saturday.

Balogun had a memorable debut when he came on the early part of the first for Brighton's injured player in their 3-2 win over Manchester United a fortnight ago.

Modric beats Ronaldo, Salah to UEFA Player of the Year award

Luka Modric has been named as UEFA Men’s Player of the Year after leading Real Madrid to their third successive Champions League title.

The Croatian, who enjoyed a surreal year for club and country, beat fellow nominees, Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo, to the award.

Ronaldo picked up as the Champions League’s best forward last campaign with Real Madrid after becoming the top scorer in the competition for a sixth-year running.

Sergio Ramos was voted as the competition’s best defender last season, while Modric collected his second award after he was named as the best midfielder for his incredible tournament.

Real and Costa Rica keeper, Keylor Navas made it four out of four award categories after he was named as the best goalkeeper of last season’s Champions League with Real Madrid.

Wolfsburg’s Pernille Harder also won the UEFA Woman’s Player of the Year.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid star and football icon David Beckham received the president’s award for his work outside of football and the impact he had made throughout and after his career.

Ndidi, Iheanacho target Liverpool downfall

After back-to-back performance which has seen Leicester City earn six points, Super Eagles duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho are set to face one their biggest test of the season as they host high-flying Liverpool in Saturday's Premier League early kickoff at the King Power Stadium.

Ndidi who has become a general in the defensive midfield of the Foxes since joining the team from Genk was a delight to watch against Southampton last weekend.

Still searching for his first goal of the new season, the Nigerian international would be hoping to dictate the pace of the midfield once again against an experienced Liverpool side that has maintained a 100% winning record in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Iheanacho will be hoping to maintain his goalscoring form after netting a goal in Tuesday's Carabao Cup 4-0 win over  Fleetwood.

Iheanacho, who is also searching for his first league goal in the Premier League will be aiming to fire the Foxes to victory against Liverpool on Saturday.

Ronaldo’s Juve face Man United, Barca versus Tottenham

Cristiano Ronaldo will head back to Old Trafford after Manchester United were drawn in Group H with Italian champions, Juventus.

Tottenham have a tough task to make it through to the last 16 of the Champions League as they were drawn in Group B with Barcelona.

Manchester City have an easier route to the knockout stages with Shakhtar Donetsk the toughest opponents in Group F.

Liverpool will come up against Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli in a nightmare Group C.

Aside from Ronaldo and Juventus providing a difficult challenge, United should face easier rides against Valencia and Young Boys.

But Ronaldo’s reunion can’t be dismissed as the 33-year-old tries to win the Champions League for a fourth year in a row.

In Group B, Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham will be tested for the second year running.

Pochettino’s side are no strangers to tough groups. They were pitted against Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid last season and beat both of them.

But this season has presented a scenario that will put his side under more scrutiny.

As well as Barcelona, who Tottenham have never beaten, Pochettino’s side will play PSV Eindhoven and Inter Milan.

Premier League champions, City have been rewarded for their efforts last season.

Shakhtar Donetsk, the champions of Ukraine, will be their biggest and most challenging opponent in Group F.

Pep Guardiola’s side will also play Valencia and Young Boys, who return to the group stages this year.

Liverpool will need to produce some of the performances that got them to the final last season if they are to make it through a hostile and demanding group stage.

In Group C, Jurgen Klopp’s team will take on PSG, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade.

Our focus is on AFCON 2019 qualifiers - Ezenwa

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Okechukwu Ezenwa says the players have shifted attention to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Seychelles and Libya respectively.

The three-time Africa champions have failed to qualify for two editions of the bi-annual tournament since becoming Champions in 2013 under late Super Eagles manager, Stephen Keshi.

Ezenwa, who had no chance of being in goal at the World Cup in Russia despite being part of the team, told Soccernet.ng that the team’s major priority would be to qualify for AFCON 2019.

"It's quite unfortunate that the Super Eagles have failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations twice in spite of their array of stars.

“With the 2018 World Cup finally over, we just want to ensure that our games against Seychelles and Libya in the AFCON qualifiers must be a must-win for us if we are to make it through," he said.

Shocking! Teenager Drugs Man To Steal Motorcycle

An 18-year-old lady, Zinatu Abubakar, has been arrested by the police in Katsina for allegedly drugging a man in an attempt to steal his motorcycle.

According to the police, Zinatu tricked the man into chewing a chocolate bar, which made the victim become unconscious.

The police said the suspect, who resides at Hayin Danmani Quarters, Kaduna state, was a member of a syndicate that specialised in trickery.

The Katsina State Police Command spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, told journalists in Katsina on Thursday that Zinatu was arrested on Wednesday and was  undergoing interrogation.

He said, “On August 29, at about 10:00hrs, based on a tip-off, the command succeeded in arresting a female member of a notorious syndicate of motorcycle thieves that specialised in deceiving unsuspecting motorcycle riders by offering them poisoned chocolates.

“Nemesis caught up with one Zinatu Abubakar, ‘aged 18 years of Hayin Danmani Quarters, Kaduna State when she chattered a commercial motorcycle, ridden by one Gide Wada, aged 25 years, of Yarhaka village, Batagarawa LGA of Katsina State from Kofar Kaura to Sokoto Rima Quarters, Katsina township.”

According to Isah, Zinatu offered a chocolate bar to the motorcyclist, who on taking it fell off the motorcycle and became unconscious.

“With the good efforts of nearby Good Samaritans who witnessed the incident, the said suspect, Zinatu Abubakar, was arrested while her cohorts, one Abubakar and Chairman took to their heels and escaped.

“The suspect confessed to have used the same modus operandi in Kaduna and Kano and robbed innocent cyclists of their motorcycles.  Effort is in top gear to arrest other members of the syndicate,” the police spokesman said.

Inflatable Bikini-Clad Sadiq Khan To Fly Over London To Protest Mayor's Support Of Trump Inflatable

A giant inflatable depicting London Mayor Sadiq Khan in a bright yellow bikini will fly over London this weekend.

The blimp will be on display a month after a similar-sized balloon showing Donald Trump as a tanned baby played a leading role in the protest against the US President's visit to the UK.

The inflatable depicts Mr Khan lying on his side wearing a yellow bikini in reference to adverts that Khan banned from the tube.

In 2016, Mr Khan announced that Transport for London would not allow adverts on its network which could create body confidence issues, following a storm over a protein shake poster which featured a model posing in a yellow bikini and asked "Are you beach body ready?"

Organisers crowdfunded more than £58,000 online to pay for the blimp of Mr Khan which will be the centrepiece at a protest called Make London Safe Again.

They say they want to draw attention to the growing problem of knife crime in the capital accusing the Mayor of pursuing point scoring by allowing the Trump blimp to fly over London.
Yanny Bruere, who started the crowdfunding campaign, said he was challenging Mr Khan to allow the blimp to apply to show that "free speech applies to all".

More than 3,400 people have donated to the fund so far which Mr Bruere says is aimed at ensuring the mayor loses his job at the next election in 2020.

"People in London don't feel safe and they aren't safe, 81 murders this year alone! Khan Out."

The 28-year-old marketing manager told the Daily Mail he had been angered by the Mayor's support for the Trump blimp when he believed he should have been focus on political point scoring instead of dealing with soaring crime.

He said: 'I was just so irritated that Mr Khan took it upon himself to speak on behalf of the UK over the President's visit.

"Whatever anyone thinks of Mr Trump, he is still leader of the free world and should be accorded the respect of that position, especially at such a critical time for the UK as we face separation from the EU.

"It feels like the Mayor of London prioritises personal enmity over the good of the country."
Mr Khan's spokesman said at the time: "The mayor supports the right to peaceful protest and understands that this can take many different forms."

See First-Ever Christian Woman To Emerge Governor In Egypt

President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi of Egypt on Thursday swore in 21 new provincial governors, including the first female governor from the country’s minority Christian Community.

Manal Mikhail was appointed governor of the coastal city of Damietta, becoming the first-ever Christian woman to hold such a position.

Private newspaper al-Masry al-Youm reported that the 51-year-old woman’s previous post was deputy governor of Giza, home to the world-famous pyramids.

Egypt has the largest Christian community in the Middle East, accounting for around 10 per cent of the country’s mostly Muslim population of 95 million.

Egypt’s Christians have long complained of persecution and Islamist attacks.

Al-Sissi, a Muslim, is popular among the country’s Christians, who backed his ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi following mass street protests against his divisive rule.

Al-Sissi has courted the Christian community to an extent unseen for decades, visiting the main Coptic Orthodox cathedral in Cairo on several occasions since he took office in 2014.

In 2016, the parliament, led by al-Sissi’s backers, approved a long-awaited law aimed at easing restrictions on building churches.

Saraki Reacts After Being Accused Of Hijacking Not-Too-Young-To-Run Platform To Declare For Presidency

The President of the Senate Dr Bukola Saraki has said that his declaration to run for President at the Not Too Young To Run event was in good faith and not a ploy to take advantage of the group.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki however admitted that the Young Too Young To Run group were unaware of the content of his speech.

Replying to a statement by YIAGA frowning at the declaration using the Not Too Young To Run platform, Saraki's statement reads:

“It has been brought to our attention that YIAGA have issued a statement in relation to the announcement made by the President of the Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, whilst addressing the PDP members and aspirants of the group.

“The occasion was first in a series of Dialogues organised by the Not Too Young To Run along Party lines. The first one is for young PDP aspirants. The subsequent ones are designed for the APC and other parties.

“It is true that the Not Too Young To Run leadership had no prior knowledge of the content of the Senate President’s remarks. However, the announcement by the Senate President that he intends to throw his hat into the ring to contest for the Presidency was made in good faith to young PDP aspirants, partly as a symbolic act of encouragement.

“It was not the intent of the Senate President to put the group or its leadership in an invidious position. The Senate President appreciates the contribution of the group to the development of our democracy and will continue to work closely with young people across the country in order to make Nigeria a better place for all.”

Woman Jumps From Speeding Vehicle To Escape From Ritualists

A Nigerian lady, Esther is grateful to God for sparing her life after escaping from the hands of suspected ritual killers.

The woman who took to social media to narrate her experience, said she literally jumped from a moving vehicle just to save her life.

Read her story below...

Pls Guys Join me and thank God.

HE just saved me from kidnappers/ritualist/one chance or whatever they call themselves.

This is my testimony.

A short thread
This (yesterday) morning I went to deliver some documents to one of our client companies in Onne, Rivers State.

Every thing went successfully. I even went to the bank to lay some complaints.

On my way back to the office, I entered this taxi.

First of all they charged cheaper than other taxis but I felt it was cos he was looking for passengers so I entered.

Immediately I entered I just felt something was wrong but I couldn’t pin it.

It was just the driver and another guy in front.

They drove off immediately I entered.

Then I looked round, everything looked (some how) in the car. the seat was dirty, The car was too rough for a normal taxi.

Immediately I knew I had been trapped. I placed my hand on the door.

Then the driver asked me where I was going again I told him but he kept saying different things maybe to confuse me. I kept telling him even the other guy in front was helping me to give him the direction.

That was when I noticed they were giving themselves signals.

My hand was still on the door knob.

When we got to the flyover at mile one, they diverted and climbed mile one bridge leading to Ikwerre road,
Instead of going straight to ABA road. And immediately they increased the speed.

I just calmly asked the man;
“Oga Why did you pass here?”

Then he coldly answered...
“Because I choose to”

Then I knew I was trapped.

We were on a bridge so no one will hear even if I scream.

We were on full speed.

I had to make a choice.

Either I jumped out of this car or I beg this people to let me go.

I knew begging them to let me go will be fruitless so I held my bag tightly …. And did the needful without thinking twice

And I jumped off.

I’d rather die that way than to die in the hands of those beasts...

Teacher, 51, Admits Grooming 15-Year-Old Schoolboy After Weight-Loss Pill Increased Her S*x Drive

A teacher, 51, claims she groomed a 15-year-old schoolboy after a weight-loss drug dramatically increased her sex drive.

Jackie Mary Hays was working as a support staff member at a school in Sydney, Australia, when she targeted the teenage student.

Hays claimed she began taking the weight-loss drug Duromine four months before she started grooming the boy.

She pleaded guilty to grooming the boy for sexual activity between April 2015 and June 2016.

At Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday, Hays' Legal Aid defence lawyer Gillian Jewison asked for the case to be dealt with under the Mental Health Act.

Ms Jewison said the drug may have altered her sex drive and affected her state of the mind.

The court also heard Hays suffered from a borderline personality disorder.

Magistrate Robert Stone said there was no medical link between the drug and Hays' behaviour.

The only evidence was from a psychological report completed by the defence in which some of Hays' friends "observed she was off the planet" after taking the drug.

Ms Jewison said Hays' crime was at the lower end of the scale but Mr Ogilvy disagreed and said she tried to get the boy to sneak out at night.

Mr Ogilvy urged the magistrate to jail Hays given she was 47 when she started to send explicit messages to the teen.

Mr Stone gave numerous reasons why the case could not be dealt with under mental health provisions.

He said: "The issue is whether proceedings will produce a better outcome for individual and the community.

"I do not consider a dismissal is warranted because of the serious nature of offence.

"There is an issue of deterrence. In general terms, the community would expect better from people who work at school with children."

Mr Stone also said he could not consider a non-custodial sentence.

"She knew it was inappropriate, she knew it was illegal to have sex with the boy," he said.

"I think it breaches the threshold, and she is not eligible for an intensive corrections order."

Hays faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

“And, we are also expecting the arrival of 165 irregular migrants that will arrive today (Thursday).

“There are six of them that are dead and are in the mortuary as we cannot locate their families because many of them change names when they get there,” he said.

378 Bags Of ‘Poisonous Rice’ Impounded In Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State government has impounded 378 bags of rice suspected to be adulterated, it was learnt yesterday.

Senior Special Adviser to Governor Dave Umahi on Internal Security, Kenneth Ugbala, said the rice was seized on Tuesday and Wednesday when an investigating committee visited the market.

Ugbala, who chairs the committee, added that the market has been rid of all the suspected adulterated rice, and re-assured the people that Abakaliki rice is still safe and fit for consumption.

He, however, said the 10 shops where the adulterated rice was discovered will remain sealed pending the conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner for Environment Donatus Njoku said a staff of the ministry went to the market on Sunday and saw one of the millers mixing the rice in bags labelled as “not for human consumption” with others and re-bagging them.

The worker reported to him on Monday and he made preliminary investigations before reporting to the State Executive Council, which ordered the closure of the market and raised a panel to investigate the matter.

According to Njoku, the committee seized over 378 bags of the poisonous rice which was imported into the state from other parts of the country. Several persons were also arrested for the crime.

The leadership of the rice mill, headed by Joseph Ununu, has been suspended.

China Made Materials Cause Cancer, SON Warns Schools Of Importing Uniforms

Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has warned importers of school uniform materials to Nigeria from China based companies, Sing Shun Fat School Clothier Company and Zenith Uniform Company, about cancer causing substances found in the materials.

Spokesman for SON Osita Aboloma said the 4- amino azo dyes, which were found in school uniforms in Hong Kong, contained up to 173 milligrams and 41 milligrams per kilogram of the tested samples, which were well above the maximum allowed in the standard.

He said: “The 4-amino azo dyes have been banned in Europe, Japan and other parts of the world prior to the finding. They can release carcinogenic substances known as aromatic amines when they mix with sweat, which accounted for the ban on the use of the dyes in many countries.

“Importers of school uniform materials in Nigeria should endeavour to undergo the process of conformity assessment of such materials prior to import, through the SON off shore conformity assessment programme, SONCAP, in order to avoid bringing these products to the country.”

Aboloma advised Nigerians to report suspected uniform materials that may already be in the country to SON for sampling, laboratory tests and analysis to be carried out at its Textile and LeatherLaboratory in Kaduna for regulatory action.

NATIPP Parades Sex Offenders…

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NATIPP) on Thursday paraded a 43- year –old Pastor, Philip ‘Prince’ Olatunbosun for sexually harassing his 17-year-old house help.

The suspect, who hails from Ondo State, was paraded along four other suspects for human trafficking and rape offences.

The pastor, according to the agency, would sneak into the victim’s room and use his hands to fondle her breasts and other sexual genitals.

NAPTIP’s Director-General, Julie Okah-Donli, who disclosed these at a briefing on Thursday in Abuja, said the move to parade the suspects, is in line with its ‘name and shame’ strategy of ending the twin problems.

Represented by the Director of Investigation and Monitoring at the agency, Mr Josiah Emerole, she said NAPTIP would continue to go after traffickers until it makes the “country a safe place for the people.”

She said: “Three of the cases have to do with rape and sexual violations against minors which are serious offences punishable under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (VAPPA) 2015.

“The other two are attempts by two suspects to traffic or smuggle other Nigerians out of the country using fraudulent means contrary to the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.”

The NAPTIP boss appealed to parents especially the mothers to pay closer attention to their daughters because of the increasingly cases and spate of rape in the country.

“To those out there who now take delight in destroying the lives of the girl child because of their uncontrollable sexual appetite, NAPTIP will no longer allow this to thrive.

“For the traffickers, NAPTIP will continue to go after them until we make the country a safe place for the people,” she said.

A 27-year-old taxi driver, James Eberechukwu Osuji, who hails from Imo State and resides in Abuja, was paraded for luring a 17-year-old female to his house and camped her there from Thursday, August 2, till Saturday, August 4, 2018.

He was alleged to have drugged the victim and sexually violated her within those days.

Also paraded for rape and sexual offences was a 31-year-old Chef, Innocent Etim who hails from Akwa Ibom and resides in Abuja.

He was arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl whose mother provides cooking assistance whenever he has a catering contract.

The National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress has adopted the direct primary method for the selection of its presidential candidate.

It also agreed that states should adopt the mode of primary that best suits their peculiarities from among the methods specified in the party’s constitution.

The party however said states that would adopt the direct primary method should notify the national secretariat in writing before doing so.

This was part of the resolutions reached by the party’s second highest decision-making body after its NEC meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

Suspected Fraudster Abducts Facebook Female Friend

A 26-year-old suspected Internet fraudster, Jide Ajayi, has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly abducting a 14-year-old pupil, identified only as Miracle.

Punch Metro learnt that the suspect met the victim on a social media platform, Facebook, from where they exchanged telephone numbers.

The suspect was alleged to have gone to Miracle’s parent’s house on Thursday, August 23, from where he took away the Senior Secondary School one pupil.

After five days together, operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team were reported to have swooped on him at his hideout on Gbeleyi Street, Idimu.

The victim told a Punch correspondent that she could not explain how she got to the area, alleging that Ajayi cast a spell on her.

She also claimed that throughout the five days that she was with him, he did not sexually molest her.

She said, “We became friends on Facebook last year. He was always disturbing me. At a point, I decided to block him because he asked me out. However, on July 17, 2018, after a party in my school, he started chatting with me again. During one of our chats, he asked if I was a virgin and I answered yes.

“I don’t know how he got to my street that night. He called and said he was on our street. I told him that I just returned from a journey and I could not go outside. He said there was no problem and he would leave.

“I went to buy something outside when I saw him. He initially pleaded with me to follow him, but I refused. He then touched me on the shoulders. I lost my senses and obeyed him.

“He took me to his friend’s place in the Pipeline area of Idimu. He held a meeting with the friend called Michael. There was a second friend, Gbenga, with them that night. He told them that I would pass the night with them.

“The room was dark. I was there for about five days. During the period, he locked me in and only brought food to me. I told him that I wanted to go home, but he said I could not find my way home without him.”

The teenager said by Sunday, Michael asked Ajayi to take her away from the house because his girlfriend would be visiting.

The 26-year-old was alleged to have insisted on her staying, as he reportedly made plans to relocate her to another friend’s house.

“When his friend was going to work on Monday, he told us that we had till 3pm to leave his apartment. That was when he (Ajayi) said he was taking me to another friend’s place, but I refused.  Some minutes later, the police came and rescued me,” she added.

Miracle said the suspect did not sleep with her, adding that they were not in a relationship before they met.

Asked the kind of work Ajayi did for a living, Miracle said she believed that he was into Internet scam.

“From Thursday night to Monday afternoon that I was there, he did not touch me and none of his friends did.

“He told me that he works with a company at Apapa. But I believe he is into yahoo yahoo (Internet scam). He never allowed me to touch his phone. But there was a night he was asleep and he forgot to lock the phone. I picked it and open his Hangout application. I saw him chatting with a man and claiming to be a girl.

“From this incident, I have learnt not to go out at night again. I have also stopped using a phone and removed myself from the social media,” she added.

Punch Metro learnt that Miracle’s father died when she was barely four years old and her mother, Foluke, had had to cater to her and her two siblings alone.

Foluke told Punch correspondent that she reported the case at the Idimu Police Station and the IRT’s office at Ikeja.

The mother of three said she believed Ajayi planned to do something evil with her daughter.

She said, “On that Thursday night, I was with my daughter in the house when her younger sister came to say she went to buy chin-chin outside and did not return. More than 24 hours after searching for her, we reported at Idimu and IRT’s office.

“The police said they tracked how he started calling the girl that morning. She switched off her phone and when she turned it on at night, he was the first person to call her and that was how he abducted her.

“I believe he had a mission. His family members have been begging for forgiveness, but I have referred them to the police. It is not possible for him to have kept the girl for five days without touching her, but that was what happened. So, he had a plan. Whenever he wanted to urinate, he locked her up in the room. I want the police to get to the root of the matter. From what I learnt, his calls after he took the girl had been to Kaduna and Kano states. I want to know his mission.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said investigation was ongoing.

He said, “The girl was declared missing and the case was investigated by the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, which rescued her. The suspect is still under investigation to unravel the motive for the abduction. The boy has denied sleeping with the girl; we are looking at a suspected case of trafficking. Investigation is ongoing.”
