Face Of The Man That Faked His Own Death In Order To Claim £150,000 Payout In UK

53 years old Zimbabwean man identified as Clever Busumani, a Tube driver has been sentenced to 18 months behind bars for faking his own death so he could could claim a bumper £150,000 payout.

According to report, the man who was working for TfL when he returned to his native country Zimbabwe in June 2011 asked his wife Cynthia Chirairo to call his employers she informed that he was unwell. She later reportedly called them again to say that her husband had died. After which she presented a fake death certificate to TfL in order to claim the service payment of around £150,000, but her claim was unsuccessful.

After the Police received the tip-off from insurance investigators that Busumani was still alive, an arrest warrant was issued and he was finally arrested at Heathrow Airport in 2015 and later charged to court where, he and his wife pleaded guilty to fraud offences on May 27, 2015, yet Busumani fled the country again before the end of his sentencing hearing in July of that year.

Busumani, of Tottenham, was sentenced to 16 months in his absence, while his wife Chirairo was given a 12 month sentence. He finally returned to the UK this month and was arrested yesterday.

"He says he instigated his own arrest by telling his friends of his whereabouts who then informed the police." Defence counsel Michael Conning said.
